This week for No Passport Required we will be traveling to the northwest coast of Denmark to visit Rubjerg Knude, home of the Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse.
First, of course, are the maps to show you were we are:

The lighthouse is located between Lønstrup and Løkken.
Construction of the lighthouse began in 1899 and it began operating in 1900. December 27, to be exact. It was in full operation until 1968, when drifting sand dunes began to form around the lighthouse and it could no longer be seen by sailors. So in 1975 it was converted into a museum but in 2002 they had to abandon the buildings because of the drifting sand dunes and coastal erosion.
In the following pictures you will see that the lighthouse is now partially buried under a huge sand dune.
And I can honestly say that this is my favorite place to visit in Denmark, and I have to go there every time we are in Denmark. I don't know why, but it just never ceases to amaze me.
So here we are, driving up to the lighthouse:
After you park there is a little bit of a climb up the cliff. Nothing too strenuous, just make sure you have good shoes on.
One of my favorite pictures of Emma and Per. Kinda looks like scene out of Star Wars, doesn't it:
And here is the lighthouse:

In this picture you can see how the sand dune has buried some of the buildings:
Looking out acrss the sea:
Here is a picture of the sand dune to show you how windy it is up there. After leaving here you'll feel like you were at the beach, because sand will be everywhere. Embedded in your scalp, even, depending on how strong the winds are.
Per and Emma:
And this, my friends, is how you will look after taking a tour of the Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse, on a windy day:
Here is a video of the lighthouse I thought you might like. It is a little long, but fun to watch:
So please join me again next week, as we visit the little town of Tømmerby, where Peter's parents live.

kind of windy, sandy and well even cold at times. But pretty cool :-)
Check out this one too with things to do:

Now that is pretty cool.
There is just something about running through the Dunes and well getting sand everywhere is just something to learn to live with ;-)
It's special and I sure have done it a few times.
There is just something about being at the ocean and feeling the breeze (yeah I know that one can be strong but still...) and well not to sound like something out of Titanic but it's ... hmm just something you have to experience.
Wow. I feel like you're planning my next trip to Denmark for me. This really is incredible and beautiful. Thanks!
It's hard to believe those are real pictures. They're so clear they look like postcards. What a view!
I hoped you would use my favorite picture of Emma and Per protecting her for the wind and sand. I just love that scene. Thank you.
Wow - those sand dunes are awesome. The photos are great, and that wind looks downright scary. Brrr!!
That is amazing - those dunes - how crazy that they blow up and pile up like that - I've never seen anything like that. And, that last picture of your little daughter - too precious!!
Have a good day Jackie - see you later. Kellan
YOU or PETER take the BEST pictures ever! I love Denmark! I love the picture of Emma and Per, GREAT shot! Tells a story.

most of these photos are by Jacki... well yeah you guessed it. I was at work :-( well on this one anyway.
On the upcoming trip there will be no work whatsoever :-)))
But anyway. The photos are by Jacki and she is pretty good at it.
What a lovely trip! Lighthouse are so mysterious to me. And that last picture is the best!
I'll have to join you next week.
Thanks for stopping by.
I love lighthouses. It's amazing to see one getting covered by sand. The picture of the sand blowing was really neat too. Oh, and Emma looked so cute in the pic of her in the car :)
This series is great, Jacki - so much fun! Thanks.
Some seriously fabulous and gorgeous pictures.
Wow that's lots of sand. It looks so peaceful. Thank you for the tour, it was almost like being there.
It reminds me of the Planet of the Apes movie where the Statue of Liberty is buried in the sand...
That is so cool. I can't believe how the sand has covered those buildings!
