Jacki
I learned three things from our trip to Ohio this week:

First, it is never, ever a good idea to put a PMS-ing woman (me), a 6-month pregnant woman (my sister) and a 3-year old (Emma) in the same car together for a 7+ hour road trip.

Especially right after a funeral.

Just not a good idea.

Second, I learned how to drive Peter's Silverado. This one right here:

I haven't attempted to drive it at all since he got it. The thing is huge. But I got a crash-course lesson going through the mountains of Pennsylvania. Everyone was able to fall asleep while I was driving, so I guess I wasn't that bad.

But I won't be attempting to drive it anytime soon through downtown DC.

Third, I learned just how spoiled Emma really is. We had forgotten to pack her rubber ducky for her bath, and she started to cry when we told her it was too far to drive home and get it. So then she asked Papa Jim (my dad) if he could go home and get it. 10 minutes later there was a knock on our room door. It was Papa Jim, with some new bath toys.

Yep, at 9:00pm and more than 7 hours of driving, he had went in search of a rubber ducky.

Everything with the funeral went as well as can be expected. Nothing much to say there.

And no family gathering of any kind isn't complete without seeing my grandma's sisters, Aunt Pauline and Aunt Jospehine (Jo).

"The Three Sisters" - My Grandma Margaret, Aunt Jo and Aunt Pauline

They are just so cute and do everything together. Shopping, doctor's appointments, whatever. And they remind me so much of Marge Simpson's sisters (minus the lesbian thing).

They even have the same raspy smoker's voices.

And well, since this is the fourth funeral Emma has attented in her short life, we wonder how much of it she actually understands. We found out after the wake. We were in the hotel room getting ready for bed and she told Peter:

"Dad, I don't want you to die because I would miss you."

Sigh.

  2. a lot can be said about a long drive with hormones flowing and well... 'nuf said right...

Anyway, not only did Jacki get a crash (not literally) course in driving the truck she started out in the PA mountains with 12 miles of road construction with a concrete barrier on one side and semi's on the other... and did well... very well.

Soo I guess before you know it she will take the truck grocery shopping since it can fit much more ;-)

    I love you my dear

I'm glad the trip went well (minus the hormones). I'm sure you are all glad to be home.

  4. Alicia Says:

Glad you're home. Your comment about the "raspy smoker voices" tickled me. Bless Emmma's heart. Ethan had a similar experience with multiple funerals at that age.

  5. I'm glad that everything went as well as could be expected. I'm also glad to see you're back. I missed your comments and reading your posts. I hope you're doing okay. I know it can be rough losing someone you love. And even rougher driving a big truck. I'll stick with my Civic. Glad to have you back.

    Cute picture of Emma......spoiled? NOT!

I'm glad everything went fine! That is one nice looking truck! LOVE IT!

I didn't realize Marge SImpsons sisters were lesbos? LOL

Great picture of grandma and her sisters!

Everyone needs to be so "loved". How wonderful that they would make sure she has a rubber ducky!

And I feel exactly as she does about dieing.

I'm driving a similar sized truck downtown Vancouver tomorrow so wish me luck. I forgot about this little jaunt when I asked hubby just to park my van at the airport instead of his truck - yikes! They are big aren't they?!

Oh and I love your aunts! I always wanted sisters and this is exactly why.

  8. speaking about the truck this pic is good too ;-)

    taking the truck out

Glad to hear you're back safe and sound. Emma is so sweet!
Little kids understand so much, don't they?

  13. I'm glad you got through it all.

I wish someone would go fetch me new bath toys at 9 pm at night.

    That is sweet.

  14. Mo Says:

Emma is such a smart girl. I think she does understand what's going on, and it's great she can express it to you guys. Great job driving Peter's truck...big trucks do take some getting used to, huh? I hope you're doing okay. Take care Jacki.
