If there is one thing I love about Peter, it is the way he believes in me and my abilities to do anything I set my mind to. If I express an interest in doing anything or learning something new, he encourages me to do it. Not only does he encourage me to pursue my interests, but actually does whatever he can to help.
Like, the time I decided to learn how to sew. This was about 2 years ago, I had just inherited my grandma's old sewing machine (the one she used to make my baby clothes and barbie clothes on) and I was curious to see if I had inherited her sewing talent.
So Peter got the machine in working condition for me....oiled all the necessary parts, rethreaded it and even bought me needles for it. And well...I quickly learned that I do not have the talent....or patience.....to sew with a sewing machine. After about a week I was surrounded by broken needles and scraps of material held together by the crooked-est stitching known to man. I'll just stick with my counted-crossstich.
And then there was the time I wanted to learn how to make notecards. I love finding cute notecards and sending them to people and I thought it would be cool to handmake the cards, too. Once again, Peter went with me to the craft store, and bought all things I would need like card stock, an idea book, stamps, and things to decorate the cards with. And when I finished my first batch of cards he even managed to say "wow, honey, those look great" when I knew they looked like crap.
So now my search for a hobby has led me back to the computer. Where I am comfortable. It is something I know well and understand. I am a geek.....I actually understand HTML code. So what better hobby to pick up on the computer than graphic design. Hence, you will find that my blog will change looks quite frequently as I learn new Photoshop and web design techniques.
And Peter is very enthused about this, as one of the things he would love to do is get a photography business going. Just something to bring in a little bit of income. And really, who can have a business nowadays without having a website? And while he is a great computer programmer at work, and makes good money at it, he is not creative when it comes to designing a website. So, he has beenbugging me encouraging me to learn web design so that I can create his business site.
He even goes as far as sending me emails like this one:

With links for "inspiration" like this:

To which I reply:

If it is hard for you to read, my response was:
About as long as it will take you to become an internationally acclaimed photographer.
But I'm trying. I really am.
So how about you? What is one thing that you love about your husband/significant other?

My husband is also very encouraging to me, for which I am forever grateful. He's always telling me, "You are so much better than you think you are!"
Let's hear it for encouraging spouses that lift us up. Yea! :)
p.s. Good luck with the graphic design...I love your new blog look!
yeahhh I am a cheerleader :-)
well all fun and games aside I would be a cheerleader for Jacki any time... Just kind of home she doesn't show up with an outfit for me to wear that would kind of test it ;-)
From experience I know that my dear wife can do whatever she wants to. If it's from being stubborn or just hard working I am not sure. But somehow it works out.
And as you can see here photoshop work is coming along pretty good :-) the hard thing for me is to help her and keep my mouth shut at the right time and hands to myself.
but well I will do whatever it takes to give the support needed at anytime.
luv U
ohh and btw.
From input I have received from my "customers" I am acclaimed in the US and in Europe...
So that would make me internationally acclaimed... right?
otherwise call my mom... she likes it ;-)
I think maybe you should help me redesign my blog... I know how to do a lot of things, but my biggest problem is deciding what I want my blog to look like. I started to change it then thought the design kind of went with the playful idea of my blog... any suggestions would be helpful.
My husband is encouraging too, but in a negative way! :) JK
Jacki, I love your page! Looks SUPER!

Then it should take you no time at all, eh?
That's great that he's so supportive, I do stuff like that too. I tried the sewing thing, even had an in-home teacher come once a week. I ended up cutting some beautiful embroidered satin to little bits out of frustration. Then there was FlyLady, Avon, yoga, etc.
Blondemomblog and Dee: Thanks! I am trying new things out, to find something that looks like "me."
Peter: Love you too. And no, mom's don't count.
Dee: Thanks!
Playful: I'll think about it, what you could do to make your blog look more "playful."
Marie: I've tried the Avon thing, too. And working out. Avon sucked. Never could get a good customer base, as I am not a good saleswoman. Working out....I am so unmotivated.
I'm TOTALLY with you on the sewing thing and the note-card-making thing. I can sew on buttons, and that's enough of that, and store bought notecards are MUCH cuter than any that I could come up with (and much less time consuming!).
I wish I knew/had Photoshop. I'd love to create a blog header, but I can't!
I loved your e-mails back and forth to each other - too funny! I am lucky to have a husband that has always been very encouraging too. We own a small business (started in 1991) and we work together to keep it running and prospering - I am lucky to have such a smart husband and one that respects my contributions.
Hope you had a great day - see you soon. Kellan
Too funny - you guys are sweet and crazy too. :^)
...sounds like my husband believe it or not! .. and because of that dear hubby had gifted me with an oil painting set, sewing machine and so many fabrics, a cabinet of scrapbook materials, etc, and they are all collecting dust. sometimes i keep my mouth shut if i want to try something new, so it won't encourage him to encourage me. but i really love him for all the encouragement.
What a sweet, sweet man! I got goosebumps when you wrote that he threaded your sewing machine! That is adorable.
P.S. I was surprised to hear how much we have in common! My hubs i a former programmer, now PM and I'm learning Photoshop too. We'll have to compare notes...
That is just so sweet. Encouragement is wonderful.
Kevin encourages me to pursue photography, he was the one who nudged me to get my new camera. I just wonder if I'm as encouraging to him, as he is to me??
